Why Scaled Agile?

Imagine a company where the CEO is shoulder to shoulder with you defining the business context of the program you are about to embark upon and how it will lift the company to the next level.  Next listen to Product Management explain the vision and demonstrate a road map of how the company will achieve this vision in a 12-week time frame.  Up next, the Enterprise Architects define the solution and the environment, describing technical details of how this process will work.  Now the fun starts.  Product Owners break out with Agile Teams to prioritize and segment features with the teams.  The Release Train Engineer (RTE) [Chief Scrum Master] coordinates the facilitation of this whole process.  The spark that lights this fire is the Scaled Agile Framework and companies around the world are transitioning to this new way of getting stuff done.

Large companies using traditional methodologies are finding it very difficult to compete with agile organizations.  Executive priorities change every few months due to market demands, competition, and shifting customer interests.  Companies are now having to pivot on very short notice.  Scaled Agile offers an optimized delivery system that can be scaled to any level.  Lean Agile thinking removes corporate roadblocks and silos.  Budgets are authorized at the value stream level to avoid non-value-added project approval delays.

Why are companies implementing Scaled Agile now?

Scaled Agile is a robust framework that helps businesses experience the following:

SAFe 4.0 for Lean Software and Systems Engineering:

Lean Agile Thinking promotes the use of flow to define the optimal level of work in process.  Each level of the framework takes advantage of lean tools and techniques to align products with company purpose and value.  Relentless improvement is built into the fabric of the framework to ensure processes are optimized at incremental levels.
